FeliCa
According to NTT DoCoMo, FeliCa is a brand name for the contactless IC card technology developed by Sony. The card includes integrated non-volatile memory and wireless communication chip, facilitating data exchange when held adjacent to compatible reader/writers. The main applications include e-money, prepaid cards for mass public transit systems, employee ID cards, student ID cards and card-keys. A FeliCa chip is embedded in all "Osaifu-Keitai" mobile phones.
FOMA
DoCoMo expalins FOMA as Freedom Of Mobile Multimedia Access. FOMA is NTT DoCoMo's third-generation mobile communication service based on W-CDMA technology. It was launched as the world's first 3G commercial service in October 2001.
FOMA i-mode mail
FOMA i-mode mail is the next generation of i-mode mail service. It is offered over NTT DoCoMo's third generation cellular network (W-CDMA standard) with uplink speed of 64kbit/sec and downlink 384kbit/sec. The maximu size of outgoing or incoming message can be up to 10,000 (10KB) one-byte characters. It allows communication as between cellular phones and with Internet enabled PCs. You can attach static/still images or melody files and send them to up to five recipients. You can also send a motion picuters as well now. The company dropped the use of ASF (Advanced Streaming Format) on its i-motion service in favour of MP4, a wrapper format for MPEG4 video and audio and text, because of the cost of licensing fees levied for use of the system by Microsoft. Voice codec is AMR. The motion picture size is limitied to 100 KB and 24 seconds length. Company allows to keep up to 15 motion pictures at the server for at most seven days. You can send a motion picture not only to another FOMA user, but also to PC user (neccessary software should be installed to view the motion pictures). The company claims to be able to send motion pictures shot at 15 frames per second, which allows to enjoy smooth pictures.
