Short Mail
Short Mail is the name of a message transfer service for PDC standard cellular mobile phones introduced by NTT DoCoMo in June of 1997. Short mail message is limited to 50 one-byte or 25 double byte characters (50bytes). The monthly maintenace fee is 100 Japanese Yen plus about 5 Yen per each sent message. Messages reception is free of charges. In order to receive a short mail you need to have a signed DoCoMo's Short Mail service contract and cellular or i-mode compatible mobile phone. DoCoMo's FOMA users cannot receive short mails. However, you can send a short message from not only NTT DoCoMo' s cellular or PHS handsets, but also from other mobile phones operators. Also, you cannot send a message from NTT DoCoMo's cellular phone to other mobile operator's similar message transfer service compatible handsets
